The Beginning of the Beautiful Baked Bean

Our Baked Beans were created back in 1969. That’s 55 years ago! Navy beans were simmered in the Bush's Secret Family Recipe™ to create those Baked Beans we all know and love. Then in 1994, Jay Bush, spoke those five powerful words that changed the world of beans forever: “Roll That Beautiful Bean Footage™.” 

And we never stopped rolling it. Things change, but sometimes you catch something so darn good you just can’t bring yourself to change it. Much like our beans, that phrase is here to stay.​

Jay and Duke: The Stars of the Show​

Jay Bush, our founder A.J. Bush's great-grandson, first hit television screens nationally in 1994 featuring his laid-back personality and love of beans. The next commercials featured his trusty talking dog, Duke Bush. Duke would go on and attempt to sell the Bush's Secret Family Recipe™ in many mischievous ways. He was never successful, but we’d be lying if we said he wasn’t close.

These two captured the hearts of TV watchers for decades. As we look back on this legendary 30 year run, we can’t wait to see what shenanigans they get into next.​
